Reviewing A History Of Hair Removal

Ever since I can remember, girls in our family always had their eyebrows trimmed and their underarms freed from hair. The men, on the other hand, always shaved their beards and sometimes even their heads. I assume this has something to do with our culture which investigates body hair on girls as unfeminine. Nowadays men and women still have their unwelcome facial and body hair removed either by themselves or with the help of expert technicians at beauty treatment centres like the American Laser Center.

I was curious as to when the practice of shaving and hair removal started so I turned to the most trusted and useful friend of all, Google.com. So it is here that I learned that it started as far back as 30,000 BC. Imagine people were already vain back then, using flints to trim their hair.

It was also during this time that ladies started to use creams with the aim of ridding themselves of undesired hair on their bodies. The gizmos and techniques evolved thru the centuries, steadily getting more refined as ladies and men became more well informed and started messing with the materials open to them.

Everywhere around the globe, folks of various cultures show their likenesses in removing unwanted body hair but they usually differ on the methods thus each culture has in some ways contributed in the development of hair removing. Alexander the Great’s obsession with shaving led on to the creating of the first barber shop in Europe. Traditional Egyptian women, on the other hand, following Cleopatra’s lead, used the sugaring hair removal technique.

Threading also came from the Middle East and parts of Asia. In the Americas, the Aztecs were also using razors made of volcanic glass. These strategies appear very backward matched against the modern technology used at the American Laser Center and other spas and treatment centers. The year 1916 brought the start of a new era in hair removal through the development of the galvanic electrolysis by Paul Kree. This is the forerunner of modern laser treatments.

In 1995, the FDA authorized the 1st laser treatment for use in hair removing. Today, it is employed generally and the American Laser Center and diverse other beauty clinics are offering it to clients who need to permanently have body hair removed.
